Gay Pride and Rainbow Cocktails

This weekend is Gay Pride in Birmingham.  Today we will be going to the parade.  Gay Pride parades are really the best.  I mean marching bands and Shriners in little cars are cool enough, but you can’t really top (haha) drag queens, rainbow floats and bikers in ass-less chaps.  I’ve watched these parades grow every year.  I can’t lie…it does make my proud.  I love my community in all its weirdness and diversity.  Even though it doesn’t always feel like it, things are changing and getting better.  We still have a very long way to go (click here to view the 2011 Map on Lesbian and Gay Rights in the World), but there is hope and more and more acceptance every day.
